I too heard you on ABC RN's Background Briefing and for the first time I have recognised most of my approach to the world expressed eloquently by a public speaker. I have been concerned with world resources and environmental conservation since I was a teenager (I'm pushing 50 now) and have tried to live a conservative life, but I am not possessed of the guts and energy to live the sort of dynamic life you have. I must say it is refreshing to hear optimism expressed without denial of the horror of the changes we must go through. I do think there is a chance we as Homo Sapiens may become extinct in that change. After all the population of humans will be reduced dramatically, we are talking mass violent death here. But there is no point in dwelling on it. We have to try now to live our lives and convince others to live their lives in such a way that the other side of the change there are "intelligent" and "civilised" beings forming a society that is living sustainably, in environmental resource, and social terms.
The trouble is, that ask runs counter to the desires of our reptilian brain, of which it seems, fewer and fewer of us seem willing to temper by doing things that in all probability won't benefit us personally, nor our family, tribe, or country. It takes a special kind of morality, a new morality that cares not what happens in the next persons bedroom or the exact point at witch you can be charged with murder for destroying a potential baby. For that reason I suspect you avoid that word: morality, but given the very loose connection between personal benefit in the future and the personal pain to be incurred now, I can't think of a word that better sums it up.
I will continue to follow your writings and recommend them for others to consider.

I heard you on Background briefing and was inspired by your talk and inasmuch as what you say is frightening, I have been reading and researching this for long enough to know whats coming but I havent found too many who have tailed off discussions with optimism. Your insights were refreshing, and gives me added drive in designing the education platform my 2 babies will need in this new world.

Thanks
